Resin Driveway Cleaning Solution
Resin bound has 3 porous layers that must stay clear of pollutants and blockages for optimal performance. If not, trapped silt (shown in Red in Diagram 1) will rise to the surface with rainfall causing two major problems:
-
The Resin remains permanently wet, creating ideal conditions for weed and moss growth
-
After rainfall, the entrapped silt rises to the surface leaving the resin surface dirty
The Stone Cleaners solution is completely unique because:
-
We offer the only solution which removes the entrapped silt layer
-
The steam is hot enough to kill algae and spores, especially below the surface
-
The low bar pressure vitally preserves the integrity of the resin surface
-
This exclusive solution prolongs the life expectancy of your drive whilst protecting your investment

Diagram 1
The Resin Layer consists of small stones bound by resin, creating numerous gaps that allow water to filter through.
The Silt Layer made up of airborne dirt and pollutants (also in rain), builds up over time. Silt provides an ideal environment for moss growth, which severely damages a resin drive.
The Porous Tarmac Layer is constructed with large stones and bitumen. Whilst allowing water to filter through, it is less porous than resin, causing the silt layer to form.
The Substrate Layer provides support to the layers above and porous enough to handle British rainfall.
The Resin Bound Cleaning Solution
The Cleaning Process:
Using a specialist tool (Diagram 2), steam is forced through the resin gaps, bringing trapped silt to the surface. The tool then vacuums the silt away, leaving the Resin drive clear and able to absorb water as it did when first installed.

Diagram 2
Why is this so important?
The accumulation of silt between the Resin and Tarmac Layers (shown in Diagram 1) creates an ideal environment for moss growth. Moss is particularly harmful to Resin driveways as it dislodges stones and irreparably damages the resin surface. Whilst all weeds should be removed from resin driveways, moss needs to be dealt with immediately upon appearance.

Topcoat Re-Glossing
Over time all resin driveways lose their lustre, and the beauty of the glossed surface simply disappears. This particularly impacts high-usage driveways which have not been maintained from installation or have at some point become contaminated with moss and or weeds.
The loss of lustre is also a sign that the resin is losing strength which results in stones rapidly becoming detached.
Gloss coating is a solution that offers an alternative to replacing the driveway. The benefits are:
-
Stabilises the old resin
-
Prevents further aggregate loss
-
Provides a stain resistance
-
Conforms with SUDS meaning porosity isn’t lost
-
Brings back colour and gloss to the driveway

Resin Drive Cleaning Gallery

Stage 2
Moss and weed killing
Every clean undertaken needs to be accompanied by the driveway being sprayed with a Tier 1 moss and weed killing herbicide. This process will help immensely in keeping the driveway weed free. The importance of this stage is that weeds are stronger than resin, so if left to infest the stones on your driveway, they will become detached, causing irreversible damage.

Stage 4
Maintenance
The Stone Cleaners view maintenance differently to all other companies that clean and maintain resin driveways. Maintenance to us means it’s important that we maintain you as a client and that you understand why maintaining a resin driveway is a crucial to protecting your initial investment and preventing costly fixes in the future. Our offer is as follows:
-
Once a client of TSC you will receive certain privileges
-
A specialist will attend an annual visit to review the state of the resin
-
Assuming nothing needs doing there will be no charge for that year
-
If that there are works that need to be undertaken, you will receive a 10% discount off the agreed price of any standard works
-
If said works include a full clean of the drive, you will receive a free herbicide coating on the drive.
